Why Are Weight Loss Medications Compounded?

Compounded weight loss medications may offer several advantages. They allow for more precise dosing, tailoring the medication strength to your needs and to help improve effectiveness. Additionally, compounding can address allergies and sensitivities by eliminating inactive ingredients that may be found in commercially available drugs. Compounded medications also come in a variety of convenient dosage forms, making them easier to take and improving adherence to your weight loss plan. Compounded solutions may also address limited availability of traditional or manufactured medications due to drug shortages.

What Weight Related Conditions Do We Compound Medications For?

We compound medications for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:
  • Obesity: For individuals with a Body Mass Index (BMI) exceeding 30, compounded medications can target different aspects of weight management, such as suppressing appetite, increasing metabolism, or reducing fat absorption.
  • Pre-diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome: Compounded medications can help regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, potentially aiding weight loss efforts.
  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): Weight management can be a challenge with PCOS. Compounded medications can address hormonal imbalances that contribute to weight gain in some patients with PCOS.
  • Post-Bariatric Surgery Support: After bariatric surgery, some patients may experience difficulty absorbing nutrients or maintaining weight loss. Compounded medications can provide targeted support.

Dosage Forms For Weight Loss

Our most popular dosage form for weight loss includes injectable semaglutide or tirzepatide. These are unique from other dosage forms as they are administered by subcutaneous injection once weekly. Patients love the once weekly injection instead of taking other medications daily or multiple times per day.
