General FAQ

Your provider can call or fax a prescription to us. Or, if they provide a hard copy, you can drop it off at the pharmacy and we will start the intake process.
Prescriptions can be picked up at our convenient location in north Scottsdale off of the 101, or we can ship the medication directly to you in our temperature controlled packaging. Overnight and courier options available for an additional fee, contact the pharmacy for more information.
If you provide us with the other pharmacy’s name, phone number, and your prescription medication details, one of our pharmacists will contact and transfer the prescription (and any remaining refills) to Avrio Pharmacy.
Because of fluctuations within the cost of medication ingredients, it is difficult to quote a general price. Contact the pharmacy for information about our set pricing on our most common compounded medications. Otherwise, it may take a day or two to provide a price quote.
The majority of prescription insurance benefit managers do not cover compounded medications. We are happy to provide all prescription medication details to the patient if they would like to try and pursue direct reimbursement from their insurance. Please ask a customer service representative at the time of placing your order for an insurance form.
Medications can be refilled by calling and speaking to our staff, by using our automated phone refill system, or by going to our website and clicking on the refill rx button (which prompts you to create an account before first use). Do not enter any leading letters or zeros at the start of the prescription number when refilling.
Compounding pharmacies are allowed by the FDA to create patient-specific medications that don’t exist commercially. For example, patients may be allergic to the inactive ingredients in commercially available medications and a compounding pharmacy will make the appropriate dosage form to prevent allergies or intolerances to inactive ingredients such as dyes, binders, and sugars. Medications are compounded and tailored to the specific and unique medical needs of each patient.

What Is Compounding?

All compounded medications do require a prescription from your provider. Providers may phone, fax, electronically send (ERX) via electronic medical records system (EMR), or provide you a hand written prescription. To best streamline your experience, we recommend having your provider send the prescription directly to our pharmacy. Avrio also carries a variety of over-the-counter vitamins, supplements, medications, and supplies that can be included with your order as requested.
Ask your provider to send your compounded medication prescriptions to Avrio Pharmacy via one of the ways listed above. Once we receive the prescription, our team will create your patient profile and contact you directly to complete profile registration and next steps. If you have any additional questions, our customer service team will be more than happy to help.
You or your provider may reach our pharmacy team at (480) 270-6700 Monday-Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm Arizona time and Saturday 9:00am to 2:00pm. We have dedicated phone lines for both patients and providers to connect you to the most appropriate team (human compounding, veterinary medicine, retail pharmacy). We are closed for major holidays, which may impact our phone hours. Our lobby is open for service Mondays-Fridays 8:00am-6:00pm and Saturday 9:00am-2:00pm, Arizona local time.
We cannot wait to be your compounding pharmacy! If you are currently filling a compounded medication at another pharmacy for yourself, a family member, or pet and would like to start using Avrio Pharmacy, here are a few steps to take:
  • The quickest process would be to request a new prescription from your provider and have it sent directly to our pharmacy. If you’re unable to do so, please see the following information on requesting a prescription transfer.
  • To request a prescription transfer: Please first ensure that you have remaining refills on file at the pharmacy we will be contacting. Call our pharmacy team at 480-270-6700 and inform the Avrio employee that you wish to have a compounded prescription transferred to Avrio Pharmacy. We recommend you start this process 7 business days prior to running out of medication to allow time to get the prescription on file and to prepare the compounded medication. The sooner the better to avoid any potential gaps in therapy.
    • Our team will gather pertinent information to either obtain a new script from your provider, or to get the prescription transferred from another pharmacy. Due to differences in compounding formulations from one compounding pharmacy to another, we may wish to consult with your provider for a new prescription instead of accepting a transfer from another pharmacy.

Licensed States

Most patients receive their shipments between 1 to 3 business days after they have left Avrio Pharmacy. We also have several expedited shipping options for 1-day and 2-day shipping if you request. The expedited shipping options do have an additional fee and may be subject to availability based on delivery address. Please note that, occasionally, inclement weather, or other issues with the third-party carriers (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc), may cause unforeseen delays.
We work with several third-party carriers including USPS, FedEx, and UPS to ship to our patients. All of these carriers can provide tracking information to an email that is provided to our team at enrollment.
Yes we do! There are many medications that require refrigeration and/or are temperature sensitive. For refrigerated medications, we will always utilize “next-day” delivery. This means that if a prescription leaves Avrio Pharmacy on Monday it will be out for delivery to the patient on Tuesday (the following day). Our customer service team will do our best to schedule the shipment for your preferred day of delivery. Refrigerated prescriptions can typically only depart Avrio Monday-Thursday as most carriers do not have a standard saturday delivery to all areas (exceptions may exist). Our cold-chain packaging is set up to account for any potential shipping delays, by providing 48 hours of temperature control. Cold chain shipping does cost more as a result of increased package weight and size.
Our goal is to provide the same high quality customer service and high quality compounded medication no matter where you live! With that being said, Avrio is actively working to secure licensure in all 50 states. Check out the current shipping map here to see if we can currently ship to your state.

If you are having your prescription shipped to you, and provided an email address, our systems will send you tracking information when the label is created and provided to the third-party carrier.

Avrio does offer some (non-prescription) over-the-counter vitamins, supplements, medications, and supplies that we can include with your order as requested.

Veterinary Medicine

Your veterinarian may have chosen Avrio Pharmacy for several reasons, all focused on providing the best possible care for your pet:

Compounded Medication Expertise: Avrio Pharmacy may specialize in creating compounded medications for pets. These custom-made medications can address your pet’s specific needs, such as:

  • Dosage Adjustments: If the standard medication dosage isn’t ideal for your pet’s weight or health condition, a compounded version can be created with the perfect amount.
  • Flavoring: Does your pet struggle with taking bitter pills? Avrio can create a tastier version in flavors like chicken, beef, or fish, making medication time easy.
  • Unique Dosage: Sometimes, a medication might not be available in a form your pet can easily take.

Veterinary Care Knowledge: Avrio’s team of pharmacists and technicians might have extensive experience with veterinary medications. Knowing your pet’s medication is in the hands of professionals familiar with animal health needs can provide peace of mind.

Absolutely! We understand that taking medication isn’t always fun for pets. That’s why we offer tasty flavors like chicken, beef, and fish to make the experience more enjoyable and ensure they get the medicine they need.

Consultation: We’ll discuss your needs and preferences with you, working alongside your doctor to ensure the compounded medication aligns with your treatment plan.

Customization: We’ll create a personalized medication based on your specific requirements, such as dosage, form (capsule, cream, etc.), and flavor (if applicable).

Preparation: Our pharmacists will carefully compound your medication, following the highest quality standards.

Pickup: When your medication is ready, we’ll provide clear instructions on usage, storage, and answer any questions you may have.

Due to the personalized nature of compounded medications, we typically require 3-5 business days to prepare them for both pets and humans. This allows us to ensure the medication meets your specific needs and requirements. You may also ask your veterinarian to discuss what quick fill (in-stock) options that we may have available in order to expedite the prescription process.
