Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease affecting the skeletal system in which bone density and structure deteriorates. As the aging process progresses, bones may become brittle and porous, eventually resulting in fracture or mild stress. In order to diagnosis osteoporosis, an X-ray is done to determine bone density. For women, bone loss is accelerated due to decreased levels of hormones following menopause. During the early stages of menopause, symptoms are difficult to detect, however as the disease progresses some symptoms can include:

  • Arthritic Pain
  • Back Pain
  • Fractures
  • Loss of Height

Treatment options include exercise, diet and medication therapy. BHRT is also available to prevent and improve bone loss.
