Specialty Pharmacy
Pharmacies that provide specialty medications to patients are designated as specialty pharmacies. Specialty medications are drugs developed for rare or chronic conditions, and may be expensive and difficult to find.
Prior Authorization Assistance
Medications that need justification from the healthcare provider in order to be covered by prescription insurance require what is known as a prior authorization. AVRIO Pharmacy works with the doctor, the insurance company, and the patient to organize and expedite the process for quicker medication approval.
Compounding
Compounded medications are custom drugs made specifically for a patient’s disease state or condition. Their purpose is to provide specific strengths, dosage forms (i.e., capsule, liquid, tablet, lozenge), or hypoallergenic products that aren’t available commercially. AVRIO Pharmacy has one of the very few accredited compounding labs in the state of Arizona.

Shipping and Delivery
At AVRIO Pharmacy, patients have the option to have their medications shipped to their home or work address. Local deliveries are made with our own vehicle and driver, which allows us to maintain proper temperatures and ensure timely delivery. Restrictions may apply.

We will research brand name medications for copay reduction opportunities. We will research foundations for possible enrollment for patients on specialty medications. Our Areas of Expertise
BHRT (Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy)
Medicinal hormone therapy that is biologically equivalent to the hormones produced naturally in the human body – as opposed to being artificially synthesized from other non-hormone chemicals. BHRT results in fewer side effects than traditional synthetic hormone therapy. Having it compounded in topical creams or gels allows for better absorption by the patients’ body than taking traditional oral pills and tablets.
Crohn's & Ulcerative Colitis
Both Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis are auto-immune disorders – which means the body’s immune system is attacking itself – that affect the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract and cause pain, irritation, swelling, and frequent bowel movements. Crohn’s affects any part of the GI tract, while colitis is specific to inflammation (swelling and irritation) of the colon. Biologic medications such as Humira, Stelara, and Enbrel can be used to suppress the immune system in order to reduce and even eliminate symptoms.
Dermatology
Dermatology refers to any issue that affects the body’s largest organ – the skin. Acne, psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea are just a few of the conditions associated with dermatology. Many commercial medications are available for treatment, but topical compounding options may provide a more effective treatment, as they’re customized to a patient’s specific symptoms and conditions.
Fertility
Fertility is the natural ability to produce offspring. Infertility means the inability to conceive a child, and can be due to a variety of biological conditions. Embryo transfers, egg freezing, in vitro fertilization, and intrauterine implantation are some of the solutions available for patients undergoing fertility treatment. There are a number of options for medication – including both commercial and specialty medications – all of which are dependent upon the procedures the patient’s reproductive endocrinologist will be following.
Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C is caused by a virus that causes chronic inflammation and diminished function of the liver. If left untreated, it may lead to cirrhosis and, ultimately, complete liver failure. Multiple prescription treatments are available to fully cure the virus.
HIV/AIDS
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), is a rapidly evolving virus with no known cure that essentially attacks a person’s immune system. If left untreated, HIV can lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), which badly damages the body’s immune system and leaves it susceptible to other opportunistic infections such as Hepatitis C. HIV is easily manageable with proper treatment and medical care, and a regimen of medicines to control the virus.
Rheumatology
The condition of rheumatology refers to pain and swelling in the body, most commonly affecting joints. This happens when the human body incorrectly identifies normal tissue as harmful, and causes an immune response that’s not dissimilar to seasonal allergies. Rheumatology is, in fact, labelled as an auto-immune disorder. The mechanism of this action is yet unknown, but the conditions are easily treated with biologic specialty medications – such as Humira and Enbrel – that regulate and suppress the immune system. Topical anti-inflammation compounded medications are used in conjunction with biologics in order to treat any lingering pain.

Veterinary health and medicine is related to the diseases, injuries, and treatments of animals. AVRIO Pharmacy compounds medications for the treatment of sick and injured animals.
